Drawing Down the Moon Goddess into the HPS
MoonPath Study Group
June 3, 2004

In this segment, the Goddess of the Moon is drawn down
into the High Priestess. She then "becomes" the Goddess
and acts on her behalf. The meaning is in the gestures of this ritual.
The ceremony could be performed completely without the words.

(After the Circle is cast and the Quarters are called.)

(The HPS stands in front of the altar, assumes the
Goddess position [head raised, arms extended upward]. HP kneels
in front of her, draws a pentacle and invokes.)

HP: I invoke and beseech Thee,
O mighty Mother of the Silvery Moon.
You who wane into the aspect of the Crone,
You who in darkness make room for transformation,
You who grow in luster as you flee the Sun.
You who shine in all your power on this night,
I call upon thee to descend, gracious Goddess,
Into the body of thy High Priestess, ______________.

      See with her eyes,
      Speak with her voice,
      Kiss with her lips,
      That your hidden children
      May receive your wisdom.

Now listen to the words of the Great Mother
Who was of old - also called,
Isis, Astarte, Diana - Hecate, Demeter, Kali - Inanna.
Isis, Astarte, Diana - Hecate, Demeter, Kali - Inanna.
Isis, Astarte, Diana - Hecate, Demeter, Kali - Inanna.

(HP steps aside.)

HPS: We are between the worlds,
        Beneath the ________ Moon,
        Beyond the bounds of time,
        Where day and night,
        Birth and death,
        Joy and sorrow,
        Meet as one.

(HPS reaches toward moon with cupped right hand. She clenches it,
draws it down to her chest and then holds her fist out to the group,
fingers up and opens it in a gesture of sharing.)

HPS: I bring you the power of the Moon.

(HPS glances towards HP.)

I invite and invoke my Consort the God
to be present in your High Priest, ___________.

(HP steps beside HPS.)

HP/HPS: May you all be here in peace and love.
          We bid you welcome.

HPS: (Begin some sort of Charge of the Goddess)

I who am the beauty of the green earth and the white
moon among the stars and the mysteries of the waters....

(HPS offers blessings or anointings around the Circle.)

(Other working magick is performed, such as with charms or gifts.)

DISMISSAL

HPS: We came together in a spirit of love
  meeting beneath the Moon above.
As we go forth, this love we will share
with others, thus making them more aware.

(HPS gestures toward the HP.)

HPS: My Lord, our thanks to you for sharing this time together.
Our thanks for watching over us; guarding us in all things.
Love is the Law and Love is the Bond.

(HP bows, pauses as the God departs from him, and
then he circles doesil to face the HPS.)

HP: Gracious Lady,
our thanks to you for sharing this time together.
          Our thanks for watching over us;
          guiding us in all things.
Love is the Law and Love is the Bond.

(HPS steps back against the altar and raises her arms and lowers her head
as the Goddess departs from her. HP steps to the side.)

(Next HPS and HP dismiss the Quarters and open the Circle.)
