A Child Blessing for Lily Iris
MoonPathCUUPS - Fort Lauderdale
February 25, 2013

(We gather outside at the Fire Circle or on the porch
if it is pouring rain.)

HP: I welcome everyone and then announce that we are
entering sacred space.

HP casts the Circle and invoke the elements:

East - Intellect
South - Fire
West - Emotion
North - Earth

HP: I invite the Goddess and the God to be present:

HP tells a story explaining why we are gathered here.
It is an ancient tradition to welcome a new child into
her community and to shower her with blessings.

Mother and father present Lily Iris to the Circle:
We present you Lily Iris to the Goddess and the God,
To have you instill in her blessings and protection
as she ventures on her own path.
May the Goddess’ light shine through you,
May it resonate in your voice,
May the warmth of her presence,
Instill in you a warm and loving heart.

A Mother’s Blessing:

Through me your essence came to consciousness,
A gift from the Goddess.
So tender and frail,
She gave you strength.
As you travelled in my nurturing arms,
You came to know love,
I gave you strength.
Now you travel beside me,
A kindred spirit.

Iris is a messenger through whom the Goddess speaks.
Legends place her in Ancient Egypt and Greece and on
the fields at Troy. Iris was the goddess of the rainbow,
the messenger of the Olympian gods. She was often
represented as the handmaiden and personal messenger
of Hera. Iris was a goddess of both sea and sky.

Other blessings (that others present might offer):

Grandmother:
'May you always find a sense of peace and happiness
in your place in this world'.
May the loving spirits of those ancestors whom have passed,
Look after you and protect you.

Uncle:
May you find nature to be a source of inspiration and beauty.
May you find enchantment in the wee folk,
And may their presence bring forth positive vibrations.

HP and Parents present Lily Iris to the Elements at the Quarters:

East:
We ask for the element of air to strengthen your intuition,
And grant you wisdom and creativity.

South:
We ask for the element of fire to give you the strength to
  pursue your will,
And to not fear change and growth.

West:
We ask for the element of water to free your emotions to flow,
And not become stagnant.

North:
Finally we ask the element of earth to keep you grounded,
And balanced in all you do.

A gift of amethyst heart shaped earrings is presented to Lily Iris.

Ancient Egyptians used the amethyst guard against guilty and
fearful feelings. It has been worn as protection from self-deception.
The amethyst has long been used to open the spiritual and psychic
centers, making it one of the power stones. It is also used as a
meditation aid when worn as a necklace. Amethyst is a gemstone often
worn by healers, as it has the power to focus energy.

A Parent’s Vow:

I promise to always be your advocate,
To be your source of comfort,
A place for you to breathe deeply,
To laugh loudly,
To weep soundly,
A place for you to regain strength,
And courage,
Find guidance,
And be reminded of all the gifts you’ve been bestowed.

HP: We thank the Goddess and the God for their presence.

HP dismisses the quarters:

North – Earth
West – Emotion
South – Fire
East – Intellect

HP: I roll up the Circle, and all is not quite as it was before.
